History of the Winery
Founding a social wine cellar
is like founding a city
It is an important gesture, destined to change the lives of those who will become part of it and that of the place where it will arise. It is dreaming of a new way of working: joining together to have more guarantees, to give greater meaning to one’s activity and to enhance the fruit of so much effort, wine. Making it no longer just “my wine”, but “our wine”, the wine of a territory. In October 1955, in Nizza Monferrato, there were those who realised that by bringing those farmers together in a cooperative, something new could be built.
Improving the conditions of hard and uncertain work and making the “wine of Nice” even better known. But also the city and the people who had bet and lived on it. Also out of parochialism, out of pride, the Cantina sociale di Nizza Monferrato was born. Just a couple of years later there were already 200 members. Having become one of the most solid realities of the sector in Piedmont, in the 1970s the process of modernising its facilities and winemaking techniques began.
From then on, the Cantina would increasingly refine the qualitative tone of its production, following the increase in the number of grapes conferred, but above all the demands of a market and a new drinking culture that were becoming more and more important.
New challenges, the nuances
of a territory
Modern oenology is not only about being able to offer high quality wines, but also about new ideas. In an increasingly aware and interested wine world, what makes the difference is knowing how to seize the opportunities that the challenges of the market place before you. Knowing how to combine a centuries-old tradition with cutting-edge craftsmanship is the mission of the Cantina di Nizza. Sometimes you have to be daring if you take on the important role of being an “interpreter of the territory”. Because the territory is not only what surrounds us, but is a forge of innovation and possibilities made up of many multifaceted pieces of a single jigsaw puzzle to be put together and recomposed into a single grand design constantly in the making. The Cantina offers its contribution to this great project, dyeing the pieces of its puzzle in barbera red.
Wine tasters are born,
tasters are made
A rich and multifaceted range of wines composed of varied and sometimes surprising bottles, each with its own peculiarity but, above all, all with a story to tell. When tasting a wine, one always thinks of a recommended binary pairing, ranging from the predictable cheese to the more or less mature salami. But knowing wine also means daring, because wine education helps pleasure but does not refine the palate.
Feeling part of the olfactory and tactile taste of wine in the glass is a unique experience for those who, like us, love this world. So let’s let ourselves go, let’s try to be daring with pairings, let’s play with the acidity of Barbera or with more tannic wines, let’s taste a white even if not exclusively vintage but with a bit of history behind it.
The Italian fortune is gastronomy, so try our wines with your local specialities without fear and tell us about your experience, our mail is always open. We will make culture out of it and we will treasure it and, perhaps who knows, one day we will propose it too.
